I am a UK artist called WallShapes.

I use spray‑paints and stencils to make easy‑to‑hang, collectible art pieces for walls.

I focus on creating spray-paintings, which are stencilled onto hangable wooden panels... I'm also adapting the stencils that I use into interesting artworks, which are an original alternative to prints.

My aesthetics have a digital and pop art influence, and my themes are very eclectic because I'm interested in exploring a wide range of themes and images in my art!

Every artwork I paint is an original due to it's handmade nature and has a graffiti style street patina which looks great as an internal decorative piece.

Why work with spray paints?

'I enjoy working with spray paints because of the strength of the colour pigment and the ranges in the medium, and also all the techniques available to an artist when using them. Using stencils also allows me to create with much greater tightness and control of the paintings appearance. It’s a medium that suits the way I think and create. I also appreciate when painting a series how it makes each painting unique, as no two pieces ever come out the same.'

Tools of the trade..

'Other attributes crucial to developing my wall art other than spray cans?.. A scroll saw, a big ipad pro, quality air filter/s and masks, sanders, a paint-can shaker, and really bright situational lighting...loads!!...oh yeah absolutely an a3 printer too!!..'

What the term “WallShapes” means..

'I've been known artistically as WallShapes for many years, my art pieces are called WallShapes also, and this website is called WallShapes too🙂'

- i love the depth of colour and the techniques available to an artist using spray paints. the colours and finishes can be manipulated and be glossy and gem-like or very powdery and crystal-like depending on the techniques used. my style is quite sharp and I get that using hand-cut fresh paper stencils to get high details -

- i fill and smooth most of the deeper natural grain in the surfaces of the wood, but i also leave some finer grain to add a texture to the paintings finish -

- an undercoat is important because it makes the surface more uniform and the painting more durable. i use gesso which is 'hyper-pigmented' and very flat, and forgiving -

- i like to spray-paint the backs of the paintings different colours and combinations to make each small batch more individual -
